Sketches from St. Mark’s


Happy new year all!

I attended the St. Mark’s New Year’s Day Marathon Reading this year. Below are some scans from my sketchbook from the event.

All the names of the performers are probably misspelled. Popular theme in poetry this year: Facebook

Switched to a better pen. Jonas Mekas read a tiny, roaming, poem, then, when he was finished said, “I have my two minutes– so I will repeat it.” As always, it felt comfortable to be in a room with so many weirdos. The guy in the bowler hat on the right– steampunk personified.

Patti Smith read a poem about Christ. She said that this was going to be a good year, that it was the year of the Iron Rabbit. “The Iron Rabbit is strong,” she remarked, “It goes out into the field and it multiplies and it is strong.” Before her Dunn, with a beautiful dance, barefoot, paper bird on his shoulder.
